I love that Gillian Welch cover. It’s on every mix I ever make

Oh I’m very much the same way. For a long time, Bonnie Raitt’s version of Angel from Montgomery was on every mix I made, then Gillian Welch’s Black Star replaced it. These days I often put both on a playlist if I make one because why not.

Bonnie's had such great success with covers, it's kind of incredible. I saw John Hiatt a month or two ago, and he credits her recording Thing Called Love for putting his kids through college and keeping tires on the tour bus to this day. And she can really write and perform originals, too.
