It's a very different paradigm than most groove boxes, being a tracker. I'm still on the fence about the price I'd paid vs. just continuing to use AUM on the iPad with a huge library of audio unit extensions, but it's too easy to get distracted on the iPad.
I’ve never had an interest in using the iPad for music production, partially for that one reason. I have used iMaschine on it but that’s essentially it.
Yeah - I think I'm starting to see a lot of good reasons to have more dedicated devices to keep things focused and in-the-box. It forces you to get creative. Plus, the "tracker" paradigm, where each step can be blanketed with 2 of number of "Effects," is a good alternative to a horizontal timeline
Yeah, you can use in the horizontal, classic, view but I’ll remain that vertical purist. Still a lot to learn for me but I’ve kept it because I’d like to learn how to compose liquid DnB and ambient jungle with it.
I really only use drum loops for inspiration and rarely ever chop breaks…I do a lot of my own programming but of boombap, I’ve lately considered chopping loops to get that classic texture. I’ve got tons of loops via Logic, Maschine and collecting since 2005.
