Some of the main heros/heroines of WWII were the codebreakers of Bletchley Park... many of whom were Oxbridge humanities nerds... and many officers in combat were nerds as well. Dept. meetings are good preparation for real battle.
Sometimes people on the left sell ourselves really short about our combat abilities in times of need, just because we aren’t all spending our weekends cosplaying in tactical gear

And I'd say both from my grandfather's experience as career Army and seeing the cosplay survivalists out here, you need the nerds more than the cannon fodder for tactical success.

My grandfather was a genius nerd who led a screaming eagle company, and then promoted to Captain. Agreed.
