This is an embarrassing question, but does anyone know how to stop a line from s t r e t c h i n g across the page when your text is justified in Word? My pockets are filling with Werther’s Originals as I type but I cannot figure it out 💀

Paula— you just gave me a lead! I googled it & if Word won’t do it automatically, I can adjust the kerning manually! This fixed the line!! Here’s how I did it: Highlight text. Format > Font… > Advanced > Spacing (under Character Spacing) > Condensed. Futz with number (.1 pt worked). Boom!

There must be some unspecified combination of keys that triggers Word’s This-Line-Shall-Look-Weird function. Then, as you figured out, you must ask friends and then search Google for the magic manual fix.

I'm late to the party here, but as your legal counsel, I suggest you ditch Microsoft for something a bit more... elegant!
