humans were already a resilient and inventive species that had populated every part of the planet even prior to the advent of the holocene. so i don't think agriculture is responsible for making us a successful species (language, culture & technology are more important human features on that front)
but the gigantic population increases produced by the mass adoption of agriculture (not just humans, but the domesticated animals *bred* by humans) produced such an ecological disturbence that it will eventually do us all in (and ultimately will represent only a small slice of our entire existence)
