I live in a very safe county with a very low crime rate but my neighborhood is filled with people using Nextdoor who seem convinced we are living through Mad Max and there is some huge, deadly crime spree going on. It's insane.
A few years ago, someone posted a photo of a black person walking on the sidewalk and basically asked "does anyone know this very suspicious person walking down the street?? Should I call the police?" So yeah, I shouldn't be surprised.
Got out of there fast. There was a time when teens were rifling through gloveboxes and these freaks were screaming “car invasion!” as if that’s a thing people say at all ever
My only reason for keeping it is just so I can find out if one of my immediate neighbors or someone I otherwise know reveals themselves as one of those nutjobs.
Ours expanded into so many neighborhoods I couldn’t tell who was where anymore. And I can spot most of the freaks while I’m walking the dogs, there are signs
My daughters go to a secondary school (7th-12th) & the biggest in the state, so despite my severe antisocial tendencies, I've found myself becoming vaguely familiar with a surprisingly large amount of people. Personal encounters & Facebook help me weed out a lot, but Nextdoor is a good backup.
Same. I tried to pop on when things there were things going on outside, like sirens, to see if people had news, but it was useless. My "neighborhood" encompasses places 50 miles away.
