Adrienne Rich said: I am tired of innocence and its uselessness. I would add: not being honest to God GUILTY is a great thing to aim at. Not being "defiled" by contact with imperfect institutions is not.

Something the left on here needs clearer thinking about is the nature of complicity and moral purity. There are some institutions where any participation would require apology. But the NYT isn’t one of them, and moral purity is overrated anyway: stop caring so much about your self conception.
