I’m pretty sure we talked about this in person, but in case I didn’t, you’d have to be a knucklehead to watch a movie that starts with crash landing the Space Shuttle in the Los Angeles River and then be upset that the machine that gets the heroes to the center of the Earth is built w/ unobtanium.

I rewrite a by the numbers disaster flick into a 1960’s science hero movie, but very few people got the bit. Enough did though!

It’s an amazingly entertaining movie, the type of story we don’t get much of nowadays.

I love this movie so much. Like deep within my soul. We quoted it nonstop in grad school after being required to watch it and do exam questions about it in our planetary tectonics class. THANK YOU

As a geology professor, this is hands down the best geo disaster movie. I love everything about it. Wrong place, wrong place.

Some grad school classmates and I developed a sequel we called “The Core II: The Mantle,” where in the aftermath of the first movie, superheated and superfast mantle plumes start destroying the earth, so the geoscience heroes have to dive into the ocean and drop a giant magnet down the plume vent
