Really nice circumhorizonal arc today! Similar to a rainbow, light from the Sun is refracted by ice in citrus clouds, and the geometry forms a straight line above the horizon.

I caught something like this once. a different type of cloud but same rainbow prism effect

That's a parhelia, or sundog!

I believe I saw the same thing a few days ago. The picture couldn't quite capture full natural rainbow spectrum coloration.

yeah I thought mine was cool as a walked across the yard to a different sitting area and that's was when I could capture the majesty.

Parhelia and halos are very common! People just don't tend to look at the sky much. I *always* do, so I see lots of things like this.

People: but CNY is always cloudy! Me: yeah, what a bummer 🙄

even when it is only kinda cloudy you can see some mind blowing stuff. like this: I had a photo of the whole circumference of the sun but it couldn't keep a good focus on my silly phone camera. this halo was so mind blowing.
