The biggest example of the domino meme in my life starts with "Sharon Anderson wins the Republican primary for Attorney General of Minnesota in surprise upset attributed to her 'very electable name' in 1994" and ends with whatever you think the biggest downstream effect of my blog is.
What's the biggest example of the domino meme in my life? I'm gonna have to go with "I got bored on the sleepy overnight shift at the data center -> Russia invaded Ukraine".

(For those not from my area, I write an election guide for local races that is widely read in Minneapolis and St. Paul.)

(Also for those not from my area: Sharon Anderson is what you'd get if that "guy waving at the bulletin board full of string" were an actual person, except with more antisemitism and Islamophobia. The Republicans just folded and let Skip Humphery win that race, they were not defending her bullshit.)

That race was my introduction to MN politics and seeing the entire state basically reject her bullshit made me feel like moving here was a good call. The Ventura election tho...

I totally understood why Jesse got elected tbh. Both Skip Humphery and Norm Coleman were such weasels -- you asked them a question and they'd respond in an obnoxiously evasive way. It was such a relief to hear Jesse give actual answers to whatever he got asked.

He really did demonstrate some of the problems with electing a "regular guy" to high office, though. Plus he was super thin skinned and kinda whiny. I got really sick of his bullshit by the time his four years were up and I was relieved he didn't run for re-election.

That was exactly it, he wasnt a good politician so that even if he had good ideas they were lost in the bluster and he didnt accomplish as much as he could have if he played the game a bit more. But we got Light Rail because of him, so it wasnt all bad

He didn't have a good sense of how to get things done. Which in some cases was fine with me (I did not like the idea of a unicameral legislature, and I didn't want him to sign the antiabortion legislation that was the GOP's offer for putting a unicameral leg on the ballot).

I learned a lot about how politics actually work from watching Jesse not get stuff done. You need to have a list of things that are centrally important to you, that you won't compromise on, and a list of things where you have a preference, but you'll consider moving if it gets you what you want.
