“While teaching a class to high school students on Wednesday, Burlington police officers staged a surprise demonstration in which a masked gunman burst into the room and pretended to open fire.”
Isn’t to a crime to make people think you’re going to shoot them? Like if I went out and pulled out a prop gun and pointed it at someone and pulled the trigger I’d probably be arrested, right?
You would be surprised as to what the Second Circuit already clearly established as a deprivation of rights. (It's probably the best Circuit on this issue)
"The students realized it was fake only after noticing that the cops in the room had done nothing to stop the pretend shooter, they said."
(Uvalde police officers nod approvingly)
Respectfully, as a Bernie supporter who lives in Vermont, what @ostrich.bsky.social said is correct. He has also supported gun owners' rights, so he has at least partial blame for our current national gun situation.
Is he good in other respects? Mostly yes. Is he bad on this issue? Also maybe yes.
Okay, and he has never updated his stance on guns? I'm asking. As a legislator from a small, rather rural state, it seems unreasonable to expect him to be anti-gun. Also, I don't expect to always agree with any politician, even my favorite one.
I didn't say he never updated his stance, but the NRA got him his senate seat. If you choose to believe that's a principled change of heart go for it, but I think you're mad because you understand that the typical cynicism of assuming liberals are lying cuts against that here.
Weird how all the "we should be holding politicians accountable for their shitty, lobbyist-induced policies" goes out the window when the politician is Bernie 🤔
"teachers said officers told them that they'd previously used the lesson with college students and adults, and that they wanted the event to be “as realistic as possible.”"
... somebody's gonna get shot if they keep doing this.
This is just bad teaching, realism is not needed to understand why witnesses might be reliable in what they tell. I could create better lessons ad hoc and I am not a specialist in criminology or stuff. I'm merely a half-trained teacher
