Handed in my thesis yesterday - today feels rather surreal. Was nice being able to do it with me friends there Now I'm: • working slowly on an article • in the early stages of trying to design a module • figuring out what this viva stuff is • entering mid-term marking chaos • upping the job search

Kowloon Walled City has been a special interest of mine for a while - I spent my downtime rewriting a piece on how the cultural memory of the city has changed - not the neatest piece but I enjoy researching it. It takes in colonial history to hyperreality to cyberpunk medium.com/@kenn.rushwo...

Never got into Star Trek, however, how do I go about referencing a character from an episode? Would this class as qualitative Data? (Did I mean that pun....you bet I did)

Great finally getting @florianfoos.bsky.social up to D&E in Manchester. Presenting - 'Media platforming and the normalisation of extreme right views' (joint work with Diane Bolet). A very good final seminar of 2023

Setting the challenge of discussing "To what extent has the debate over decline played a role in Britain's vote to Leave" w/ 1st years without mentioning G**dwin. Firstly due to his recent work undermining (i'd argue almost discrediting) his work round then and secondly out of sheer lack of respect

My solo-authored piece from my PhD on why governments take unpopular decisions is finally out in Representation - www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10..... Based on interviews with decision-makers, I find that in 3 cases where UK governments took unpopular decisions they did not do so knowingly (1/3)

Having a quiet Saturday after long week so thought i'd start marking - in true UoM fashion some of the marking had not been designated to the right person so that absolutely brilliant essay I genuinely enjoyed marking...... not from my pile or group 🤦‍♂️

Weird editing process outcomes this past month - One piece of writing went from 12k to 21k words and works much better. Another went from 16k to 9.5k words and works better Odd but i'll have it

This is a shocker, but the picture would be even more extreme as a time series!
Oh, and a bonus chart that I think will fry a lot of people’s brains and break a lot of narratives: For all the talk of six figure costs of college in the States, here’s how much debt graduates leave university with in the UK and US vs other countries

Realising that the greatest challenge to face organising EPOP 2024 in Manchester will be that it has 3 of the worst train stations in the country in terms of % trains cancelled. In a new low Oxford Road didn't even have the boards working tonight along with 20+ minute delays. Polisky

Hi everyone! I’m a Politics PhD student based at the University of Manchester. I focus on visual political communication and how candidates target in-groups and out-groups through their campaign imagery. In my spare time I love swimming, especially outdoors!
