Fun fact: the ṯ in Ṯamūd represents the same sound that the þ stands for

right th exists in languages of that area too right?

In Arabic, Aramaic, Hebrew, Old South Arabian (Awsanian, Hadramic, Himyaritic, Qatabanian, Sabaean), and Ugaritic at the very least Though note that ṯ when used for transcribing Egyptian represents a very different sound
