The AI hate cult on this website is getting downright ludicrous

I dunno it does seem fair to hate openAI for being generally weird and shit, marketing chatgpt as it does tbh

well, the really important reason is probably "sam altman molested his sister", in combination with the general regulatory-cartel anti-open-source mentality of the whole organization and rationalists in general

but valid criticisms of openai don't mean the big-mad-at-linear-algebra crew are anything but utter clowns

Also the fact that both Microsoft and google pivoting to that concept and it being another huge waste of electricity overall for what it actually accomplishes - being a less reliable search engine touted as the big new thing. It just comes across as a new blockchain to me; ruinously inefficient

There's a lot of very dumb trend-chasing going on and I am not a fan of what Google's been doing to their search engine, but the 'waste of electricity' argument is a fully general argument against a private sphere at all
