It's been 30 years since Disney released their most unexpected success. They thought this would be their B-movie compared to Pocahontas when they were making both, but The Lion King surprised everyone by being one of the biggest hits of the 1990s and a true cinematic masterpiece.

Meanwhile, the movie based on John Smith's self-insert historical fanfic is mostly remembered for that one great song and having the male lead voiced by disgraced former celebrity Mel Gibson.
Yeah, I don't think Disney making a Pocahontas film was a good idea in retrospect despite having good intentions making it with an ending that didn't have her being kidnapped and her name stolen. I feel that Disney could fix that by making a film with Native American filmmakers behind it.

I think a movie about Matoaka by a Native film maker would be great but it wouldn't be a movie for children.
