The libertarian proponents of the EPIC constitutional amendment (repealing all taxes and replacing them with a so-called consumption tax in Nebraska) have admitted falling far short of the required number of signatures. "Consumption tax" is a euphemism for sales tax. /1

The amount proposed (7.5%), even if this was workable, was woefully inadequate. Independent economists estimated the amount would need to be greater than 22%. The result would have been shoving a flat tax on the poor and middle class to benefit the wealthy. /2

Gov. Jim "Billionaire swine rancher" Pillen is calling a special legislative session to address the "crisis" of high property taxes at the end of the month. A combination of Democrats, Republicans, and business leaders are all opposed to EPIC. My brain-dead state senator will introduce it. /3

Consumption taxes are always regressive by nature...much like libertarian thinking
