Really boring (and basic) cataloguing question: how relevant is ISBD these days? Doing cataloguing training and thinking about how I talk about punctuation, and it's occurred to me I'm really out of date!

Choosing whether to prioritize work or parenthood/life is hard. CILIP rare books conference sounds great, but clashes with M's first day of school which I'm not prepared to miss. :( And that's probably just me being overly sentimental.

Love this American bag of flour with its warnings: "Flour is raw. Please cook fully before enjoying." and "Not a low calorie food".

Most unexpected part of the weekend was a cockatrice reference on My Little Pony, which has now led me into a cockatrice/basilisk wormhole at work, because of course there is a basilisk on the Mappa Mundi.

Filmed a little video about manuscripts for social media and now terrified that I said something factually incorrect. Still so uncertain about that part of the job.

Hilarious.

Cleaning the library took such a long time that I made up my own game: when & where was this book rebacked? I still have lots to learn, but my guessing was getting pretty good.

The next exhibition at work is called Illuminate. It's not just about manuscript illumination, but I have put in my favorite, O.VI.12.😍 It’s a 12th century Psalter.

Pretty binding to make up for it.

Diapering is clearly the medieval art equivalent of dribble in football, in that it will always make me giggle. I am so grown up.

Ah, the curious case of the middle-aged baby Jesus in medieval art! This artistic choice, which might seem a bit odd to modern eyes, actually has roots in both the cultural and philosophical context of the time. Let's take a look at some examples we have here at the museums.
