As always, my Irish brothers over at @bigbangcomics.bsky.social have nearly the exact opposite results in almost every regard. For us, manga and digest trades don't sell any great numbers, X-Men relaunch orders are huge, and Transformers numbers are good but nowhere near our top seller.

Comic pros out here that deal with the Direct Market (i.e. comic stores): Find a way of getting an advance reader copy of your upcoming stuff to retailers (i.e. comic stores). Some publishers don't like it, but there is nothing that makes us order more than actually reading the thing itself first.

Idly toying with the idea of doing a "The History of Comics in 500 Issues" podcast ala @andrewhickey.bsky.social 's excellent "History of Rock Music in 500 Songs." It'd be a sizable investment of time and energy with no guarantee of a ROI. OTOH, what else do I have to do with my time?

One of the most puzzling things that Marvel has done in years is how they fecked around with the SCARLET WITCH series. SCARLET WITCH was canceled, relaunched as SCARLET WITCH AND QUICKSILVER, then that was canceled and now it's being relaunched as SCARLET WITCH again.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: One of the most effective, low cost promotional tools is a simple bookmark. Flyers get thrown out, but bookmarks? People actually USE and keep bookmarks, they look at them all the time, it's a great portable billboard!

My biggest problem with spam emails is I want to reply to them just to correct their grammar

You, a comics solicitations writer: bah, high concepts don't pull anyone in This person, a manga solicitations writer: "If you thought Ghostbusters would've been way better as a BL, this is the manga for you" (so ordering the hell out of this)

I do wonder how much a lack of "awareness" is to blame for all of this. Twitter being destroyed has had huge consequences for comics' marketing and word of mouth. It was THE channel for comics marketing outside of ads in the actual comics.

The story itself may be *great*, but the marketing previews do not tell me why I should read it.
