Today, I'll like to talk about my work on the fertile plain of Songbai (松柏), ruled uneasily by the Shokuro Shogunate. (In PF1 this area was simply called "Shokuro" after the Shogun.)

It's wild. Some painful, harrowing, exhausting few days. warded in hospital, barely recovered before rushing to finish final classes in term replete with admin cock-ups, nearly fell sick again from strain. Trying to finish more work, then internet drama; some really terrible sentiments sent my way..

Behind the scenes details about Tian Xia's Kwanlai, 1/?? Ootoya is the "original" name of the nation. It's taken from the Japanese word 大塒, which means "Big Roost." It's kind of on the nose for a nation full of bird-like tengu, but still figurative enough that I liked it.

I enjoyed writing this story in support of the Tian Xia World Guide, officially releasing tomorrow! Hope you enjoy this blend of gong'an (stories of virtuous magistrates uncovering mysteries) and zhiguai (weird supernatural tales) about everyday people, their unspoken histories, hopes, and legacies.
