"Where my #Mississippi folks at?" 🤣
Okra sushi?! I've been in and out of #Japan for the past 20+ years (the last 12 years consecutive), but I've never seen this combination. It was DELICIOUS though!!!

Absolutely! It's a staple in Mississippi where I grew up. You can even buy fried okra at gas station delis.🤣 My mom used to make the BEST gumbo with okra too (we have relatives in Louisiana).
I bet your hubby would love these. Found in a local grocery store a few years ago. Hard to find lately! 😢
Love Okra! I would eat fried okra instead of popcorn! I had the privilege of being raised by a mom and dad and grandparents that moved out of Arkansas after my dad served in WWII, to Oregon. Great southern food and I got to be an Oregon Hippie teen in the 70s.
Great family tradition! I didn't know it was so popular in Japan until recently.
Lots of history behind okra's popularity in the US too — 'okra' & 'gumbo' are both loanwords from African languages, as the plant was brought to the Americas during the slave trade and introduced into the Southern diet
Yes. My mother told me a great story of her mother taking extra vegetables and things to a nearby family and sharing and it wasn’t until I was older that I learned it was an African American family. This is how they learned about Okra. In the 1930s sometime. Wish I had gotten more details.
