Something hopeful: We're 61 electoral votes away from passing the National Popular Vote compact. If, say, PA, NC, VA, MI pass the law, 272 electoral votes will be decided by the national popular vote. The legislative process is underway in those states.

It doesn't split blue state votes, it puts all votes from a state towards the winner of the total vote. When enough states sign into this the electoral college becomes obsolete and the popular vote winner always wins.
