Further to the below, I excluded Con-Ref/Ref-Con one-twos from "incorrect" recommendations & checked third place results instead. With this done, the results become: (Calls, accuracy) getvoting.org: 450, 96% stopthetories.vote: 459, 100% tactical.vote: 508, 98.62% tacticalvote.co.uk: 450, 100%
Yep, very good. The few misses are interesting though. Most (11) of them are where Con and Reform have occupied 1st/2nd places so not necessarily the wrong recommendation, more not being able to get it into second place. If you exclude these Con-Ref one-twos the accuracy ticks up.

People are - rightly - worried about the possibility of an RN government in France. But what about a government made up of the new « Nouveau Front Populaire », the new left electoral grouping? What does NFP say about French foreign and security policy ? Short thread.

As a Probation Officer, this makes me endlessly happy and optimistic. Years and years of 'lock em all up' policies without a single thought for how we keep people from going back to prison, or what we do when the prisons are full. Very smart appointment. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

An important thread
Listening to James Timpson's interview, it is clear that he would like to see a sea-change in sentencing policy. That will not be his remit, but if the new PM supports such a change, I think it would have very significant ramifications for our political culture. Let me explain. /1

The new UK government has the lowest proportion of privately educated cabinet members since 1945, and that's just fine.

Presser was refreshing although it seems the journalists are having kittens about the Timpson appointment and what it could possibly mean in terms of locking people up.

Very considerate of Keir Starmer to call a cabinet meeting for a Saturday, but not until 11am so all the ministers can have a decent lie-in! 😴

The key factor is that the rebadged UKIP have only increased their vote slightly in ten years - while they have five MPs this time (including mine, God help us) they came second in FEWER seats this time. Tory incompetence & corruption was a bigger factor than any right-wing shift

A nice progressive move from Labour: apparently James Timpson is being given a peerage and made prisons minister. For non UK folk, his high street chain of key cutting and shoe repair shops has a policy of employing ex-convicts giving them decent jobs to avoid reoffending. It works.
