Think about how amazing it is that they know where to point the signal 15 billion miles away, how to remotely fix memory corruption in 46 year old software, and do it all with 22.5 hr lag EACH WAY. It's like a recipe for madness designed specifically for engineers. Kudos, NASA Voyager team! 🛰️
HOLY SHIT THEY FIXED VOYAGER I …!!! blogs.nasa.gov/voyager/2024...

"Have you turned your 46-year old hardware off and then on again? Sometimes that can help." 22.5 hrs later: "No."

A room full of JPL engineers fully aware they'll need to find a new gig if they fail is probably the most capable, most motivated software team ever assembled

At DragonCon a couple years ago, someone who worked on Voyager gave a panel presentation. She said that they have a complete Voyager computer on Earth and that some long time experts know all the nuances about how it works, and how to rework around problems.

You know, sometimes I’ll watch a sci-fi shows that tries to be a bit more realistic or at least somewhat believable, like, I dunno, For All Mankind, and the engineers will come up with crazy solutions to fix something 10 billion miles away and I’m like … yeeaaaah, nah.

And then actual NASA engineers come up with something like this? You know when they say “if this was a movie nobody would believe it”? Yeah. These folks are just something else.
