They’re showing The Departed on channel 6. I’m 23 minutes in and I just realized Matt Damon and Leonardo are different people. Also, this movie is unwatchable. I remember liking it when it came out, but…why???

There was a short period of time where Boston movies were big. Some of the accents in that movie were pretty atrocious too

I know! I mean, it’s my hometown, so I def notice the accents and I enjoy dunking on our city’s silly self-image. The Departed accents are accurate enough, it’s just like…a bad movie. (I also had an unpleasant interaction with someone involved because…Boston, and that might color my perception)

Sheen's was pretty mediocre. Nicholson's was terrible (and he overacted). Damon and Wahlberg's are real. DiCaprio, his accent was surprisingly good. He could almost pass for a native

Like yes, southie is full of white dudes named packy and sully who just bust balls all day (ugh, packy!!!) but it’s not interesting. Maybe it felt more compelling because it was supposed to be loosely Bulger-brothers-inspired, but it represents this era of gen x movies that haven’t held up

I find Nicholson pretty unwatchable most of the time and assumed the accent was part of his overacting. I didn’t see enough of Sheen, but wait, I also forgot Matt Damon and Donnie are different people. Anyway. I switched to Death in Paradise now. Much more entertaining!

To be fair, you don't cast Nicholson in a movie in 2006 and *not* expect overacting, so I really have to assume that the bloviation was Scorsese's goal. I don't think it works, but a lot of people seem to like that sort of thing.
