It's time to be a part of chickstory! As is usual for Great Lakes Piping Plovers, the 4 chicks born at Montrose this summer will be banded, meaning they will be individually recognizable, and so doggone it, they need names. 1/x

This is old news by now, but we wanted to make sure everyone heard that County Line Orchard has decided to delay mowing until after the nesting season. 1/4 news.wttw.com/2024/06/18/g...

While this is a good short term win, we are dissapointed that neither the orchard owners, nor the Luke Oil corporate office, is willing to speak with Dunes-Calumet Audubon Society, Ken Wysocki, 2/4

...or anyone who would like to help them put a plan in place for the future that benefits both them and the birds. Neither have County Line Orchard or Luke Oil spoken to the media; rather, their decision was relayed via local councilmen. 3/4

So while we celebrate this win for the nesting Dickcissels, Bobolinks, and Savannah Sparrows, we are concerned that next year we will find ourselves in the same position. We continue to ask County Line Orchard to work with Dunes-Calumet Audubon to find a long term solution. 4/4
