BREAKING: Federal judge rules that Florida’s ban on gender-affirming medical care for minors and many of its restrictions on similar adult care are unconstitutional. More to come at Law Dork. www.lawdork.com

Here is the 105-page opinion from Judge Robert Hinkle, a Clinton appointee who has overseen several challenges to Florida’s anti-transgender policies: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

On pages 25–29, Hinkle addresses Eknes-Tucker, the 11th Circuit ruling reversing a preliminary injunction against Alabama’s similar ban as to minors, and other prior decisions. Florida is in the 11th Circuit, so this analysis is key to his being able to rule how he does.

Wanted to give you a heads up that the Eighth Circuit heard arguments this morning in Iowa's appeal of an injunction on school book bans for K-12 and "don't say gay/trans" for K-6. It sounded to me like they won't let the injunction stand. twitter.com/LauraRBelin/...

Forgot how to process good news.

That is a very thorough enumerated list of unconstitutional measures. Some are the worst parts of the Florida law, but others I think would not be viable without the others- the judge did not consider what constitutional measures would exist vis-a-vis their foundation.

Holy shit that opening paragraph. 🔥

Thanks for the Alt-text!

it doesn't matter if nobody makes them stop doing it.

Who pissed in your cereals? This is a victory. One step at a time. Celebrate this one, it's worth it. Then let's move on to the next thing. ALL victories are good victories, regardless of their size.

Oh a cis man saying we should be fine with incrementalism and toothless rulings. How banal

i do hope it turns out well. it's very hard for me to believe things do these days.

Until the fed starts breaking knees over it I'm not going to believe it actually means anything

OK, here’s a trans woman saying it: I am happy with every little step made towards trans acceptance at any level. The small things have added up to big changes in my lifetime, both in positive and, lately, negative directions. I want to see more of the good steps. I don’t believe in magic bullets.

Thank you. And again, I'm sorry it all came down to this.

That's not what I said and you know it. A lot of wrong has been done in FL (& elsewhere) and we all know it, but it has to start SOMEWHERE. I'm sure you'd prefer if things went 180 upon waking up a morning, but that's not reality. I'm sorry it's happening & I wish it wasn't, but here we are.

Cool! Much more significant decision than (sigh) Hunter Biden's loss, which will eat all the available news headline space.

'Bout effing time! Ever notice how when Cheeto Hitler imagines his rights are being stepped on, the courts spring to action right away to rescue him, but for regular people, like transgender kids, they take their own sweet time?

I'm taking the win because it's better than the other choice. Also, even if it gets appealed, if it is strong? It puts even a conservative court into a bind. We use all the tools we can grab. (Even if they aren't the final version)

fair. I just. don't want to grab hold of hope only to have it ripped away yet again

Having now been deep in reproductive justice work for .. a long time? I guess where I've landed is that hope is a visitor, and the fight is rarely done and dusted.

yeah,,, i just. im chronically low on spoons already just existing in spite of the world. id love to fight. to take the battle to them. but I can't. like. physically

that's ok! I absolutely go through cycles - sometimes the most important thing we can do is rest and look after ourselves.
