I'm not a media lawyer or anything, but despite how poor a job the NYT does you'd sort of have to assume its lawyers would have thought about the scope of discovery when it decided to sue someone.

AI might not be able to unmask sources but I guarantee they are trying and won’t be shy about false attributions.
