On June 10, 1944, Joe Nuxhall made his Major League debut, pitching for the Cincinnati Reds. Nuxhall was 15 years, 10 mos. and 11 days old at the time. He retired 2 batters and allowed 5 runs, all earned, in an 18-0 Cincy loss. Nuxhall’s next MLB appearance came almost 8 full years later, in 1952.

Since 1901, only 4 pitchers in MLB history have started at least 15 games and saved at least 15 games in the same season. Can you name them? Hint: 3 of the 4 accomplished the feat between 1999 and 2004.

Jeff Bagwell hit 23 home runs in home games at the Astrodome in 1994. In the Astrodome’s 35 year history as Houston’s home park, no player ever hit more home runs in a single season at the Dome than Bagswell in ‘94. Due to the player strike, Bagwell accomplished the feat in just 56 games.
