Using MOVIE as an acronym, recommend 5 films. My picks:
M - Margaret (Kenneth Lonergan)
O - Out of the Past (Jacques Tourneur)
V - Victoria (Sebastian Schipper)
I - in the Mood for Love (Wong Kar-wai)
E - Elevator to the Gallows (Louis Malle)
Absolutely co-signed. I wish more people had seen RIDE WITH THE DEVIL too. The nice-problem-to-have is that Lee was way too comfortable with ambivalence and disinclined to tell you how to feel about what you're watching.

That line where Sigourney Weaver cuts off Kevin Kline complaining about his life with “I already have one husband. I don’t see a need to have another” or words to that effect is DEVASTATING
Poor Kev - everybody in his life sees through his bullshit and he can't figure out why everyone treats him as a not particularly amusing joke. Which is both hilarious and excruciatingly sad.
