capital-G Gamers fascinate me so much because i cannot fathom the mind of an individual who insists so heavily that the existence of any sort of minority within a game is inherently political, yet also is completely incapable of recognizing when the game is actively making fun of them for bigotry.

the VERY FIRST BOSS is a physical manifestation of the military industrial complex and you cut him in half with a laser sword. and the theme of "everything these games glorify is actually campy and sucks ass" went right over gamers heads. all the way to the "might makes right" boss at the end

armstrong got memed into being extremely cool because gamers saw "the president should be able to destroy all opposition with secret police" and took from it "killing big guy juiced on make believe nanobots rocks"

MONSOON, the boss that goes on a 7 minute screed about memetic pseudointellectualism as the death of reality, whose super power is sucker punching you from behind forever, was perfectly depicted as a lame uninteresting libertarian. this fight confused gamers and they wrote it off as annoying and bad

Monsoon kicks so much ass as a fight. Raiden’s response is literally “Doktor, turn off my pain inhibitors” and then to just laugh at him

i love how on the nose Monsoon is: the fight marries mechanics (this boss does a bunch of annoying shit) and narrative (this boss says a bunch of annoying shit) to force the player into fighting God's Strongest Gamer, and then the player's character says "dude shut the fuck up" and ventilates him

MGR team knew if they gave gamers even one second to sympathize with Monsoon there would be hell to pay, so they just made it cut and dry. this boss character sounds like gamers. kill the gamer in our game, so you can kill the gamer in your mind! this bothered a not insignificant amount of players
