you got it on the head, people better than me at this have explained it at length but when I first saw one and used a friends in melee it felt way too smooth. i should be fucking up unless I'm perfect, the controller should not assist in that regard
but yeah for like street fighter or Tekken cool
Interesting - I was never as into melee but knew some guys that were really hardcore into it back in the day and the impression they gave was "you should take every advantage you can get".
This was before that style of controller took off though, so I'm curious if they'd feel the same way about it
im biased because i make and sell leverless (hitbox style) controllers but even the smash-specific leverless boxes don't really provide an advantage. they have to be a nightmare for building muscle memory on and i highly doubt they're more ergonomic than a standard controller
they really aren't more ergonomic , and I'm pro box controller in any game that isn't smash. but the fact there is a leverless box just for smash does show there is some difference
my lawyer tells me i have to couch this statement in "IT IS MY PERSONAL BELIEF" that smashboxes do not provide a mechanical advantage "THAT I AM AWARE OF" and "I DO NOT SPEAK ON BEHALF OF MY EMPLOYER"
if you ARE looking for a STANDARD leverless with whatever sicknasty art you want across the whole mf thang www.sgfdevices.com is my (second) job lmao. alright thats my shameless plug
we've also made pads that aren't just a bunch of old facebook memes i found in 10 minutes. instead of putting photo paper under acrylic panels we UV print directly over 3D printed cases and buttons we make ourselves. like a super high-res photo print applied to the surface of the controller
not OFFICIALLY. if you ask UNOFFICIALLY, as a FRIEND, and don't shipping the top panel/entire controller two ways, we can paint up anything with a flat surface.
