Separate the art from the artist by using a small wedge to pry the shell open A certain amount of grit is normal. Shucking art safely takes practice and sometimes you may just find a pearl lodged in between! Don't forget that little muscle in the corner. If you have steamed them and the shell doesn't open on its own, that one is bad, discard it.
