I'm sorry but at this stage, people who aren't committed to voting this November for the not-fascists are succumbing to the same mindset that influencers selling "natural" remedies to cancer patients peddle as good.
Very unpleasant chemotherapy treatment sucks but is better than dying.
I think exercising one's franchise at every given opportunity is the most serious of all things, and any skepticism towards a message which says that - in any context - is dangerous rhetoric.
and then you made some claims that are nonsensical based on the fact that againnnnnnn the thing you said is not happening is generally not what is happening for most in a position to listen to you and do what you want us to do
I don't know what imagined position you are arguing with, but you probably don't see all the same posts that I do!
And I'm responding to some scary shit that I'm seeing going around, including in my replies right now.
“people who aren’t committed to voting” my dude most people in California, New York and Texas are workers and/or disabled people who have life and death shit going on all day that wont turn out the same whether or not they personally pull a lever
I really wish I understood where this mindset comes from.
Because if you think I'm not aware of all the difficulties people face to vote, please check yourself. I am.
My god. Anyone with the chance and means to exercise agency should. And I see plenty of doomers out there who just won't.
And even if they're just being performative online - truly, they need to shut up.
This is make or break time, and we have a media ecosystem who seems largely uninterested in talking about Project 2025 and all the dangers we're staring down the barrel of.
I'd rather we stamp it out now.
I don't think we should stamp it out now. The threat of abstention should loom over Biden and his campaign until the polls close. It's our best shot at getting better messaging out of the campaign, better actions from the current administration, and a better platform moving forward.
I could be swayed to say voters need to rally around the Democratic nominee after the DNC, but right now is the time for absolute maximum pressure on the Biden campaign. If they can't sustain it now in July they certainly won't be able to weather October.
For the record, nowhere did I say to vote for Biden. I said to vote for the not-fascists.
So, let's just be clear about that. I'm saying the thing you seem to want me to say.
I like the ‘bus’ analogy: if you can’t catch a bus going exactly where you want to go, you don’t go home and sulk. You catch a bus that’s going as close as possible to where you want to go.
Not really. Biden has made it abundantly clear that he isn’t willing to lift a finger to save democracy. Thanks to the electoral college my vote in California is meaningless. I’ll vote for Biden (if he’s still running) in November just like I did in 2020. But blaming the voters for all this is dumb
The answer is simple: vote
Trying to help the Democrats win in November seems important. I hear that the alternative is fascism. But his message is “I won’t do anything different. I was sleepy last week. Send money.”
So Biden doesn’t have to be the Democratic candidate? Or is he your definition of democracy?
Another choice for Biden is to use some of his nearly-limitless power to save democracy. You should tell him what’s at stake. In his capacity as a voter, since you’re putting all the responsibility on us
