Tbh, this feels like it's just a formalization of the petty tyrant problem we've already seen on Mastodon and to an increasing extent here

Social media companies don't want to wrestle with 2 things 1) A well-moderated network is going to require political decisions that piss some people off 2) A well-moderated network is going to require labor and money Outsourcing those ?s to 3rd parties just makes things murky & unaccountable

There are certainly models, Reddit and Wikipedia probably being the best ones, but frankly that sounds tiresome and rife with issues. I come to a microblogging site to post and see posts, not decipher arcane personal beefs btwn the Blocklist Empire & the Muter Confederacy

Depends on a few things. If it's mainly used as a tool by certain communities to protect themselves from harassment, I think it could work. But if it's used as a substitute for investing in a T&S infrastructure to where unaccountable volunteer mods wield a lot of power, yeah I think it'll be bad.

Apart from anything else, this kind of thing seems to assume users have more time and tech skill than many of us want to use on this kind of platform.
