I am flying to NYC just for the day and for the express purpose of taking my father to a Yankees game. If you are religious, please pray the rain holds off, or that they put a dome on the stadium before 1 pm.
Also had the chance to meet Craig Monroe, Jason’s partner on the road, the legendary Dan Dickerson, and Dan’s radio partner Bobby Scales. But the real thrill was meeting the first and for a very long time only woman broadcasting MLB games, the Yankees’ Suzyn Waldman.
It turns out Suzyn was a Broadway actress before getting into sports radio. She played Aldonza in a long running revival of “Man of La Mancha” in the 70s. Who knew?!
There are not many things that could get me, as a born and bred Brooklynite, to cheer on a Yankees game — but this is one. I hope you and your dad got to watch a hell of a game.
Last time I got to take my mom to Fenway, the crowd sang Happy Birthday to Ted Williams, who called in from retirement to thank everybody. She loved to watch him play, was a Sox fan from the 1930s until the day she died. Hope it's a great day for you both. Even though it's the Yankees.
We are all Red Sox fans in my family, so as you know, a chance to see the Yanks lose is almost as good as seeing the Sox win. Sadly, today, it was not to be.
I am reminded of something I heard a devoted football fan say many years ago, when I asked him who he was hoping would win a game in Dallas. He looked at me incredulously and said, “I would root for the SS against the Cowboys.”
Took in my first Yankees game two weeks ago! Awesome experience. Get the steak sandwich from Lobel’s (3rd baseline, 300s level if I remember correctly)
Doming Yankeeland is at the top of the renovations' list, when the Pinstriped Investment Fund decides the time has finally come to add a coupla extra billion to Prince Hal's exit package.
