The unfortunate thing about discord is that it feels this way because of how people use it, but functionally it's literally just IRC. A bunch of the same exact markup and everything. It's just confusing because people insist on trying to use it as a forum and a wiki for some godforsaken reason

I got to change my text color on IRC.

Oh it's absolutely shittier than IRC in many ways, not least that it's an enclosed, monetized platform instead of a universal standard

Basically they took Mumble, but made the text chat much more robust, yet still far short of what we already had, and filled it with Gamer Culture tics

it's like weird IRC but corporate and also people try to use it like AIM or ICQ a lot

I installed it when it looked like the forums were going down, but it stopped working almost immediately, and I never saw the point in fixing it. Discord just seems like the worst possible medium for anything.

it’s better to not know

The only thing I’ve figured out with it is using for voice chat with like 5 friends while you all play video games. The text portions are beyond me and I constantly miss messages
