Hot take: I'm truly not interested in hand wringing over how much people will miss enjoying the books of men who have turned out to be abusers. I'm far more concerned about the missing art that women haven't been able to create/publish because they crossed paths with such men.
I have at different times been offered work by people who wanted to sleep with me and had my work ignored/overlooked by people who did not and both those things are ways abusers hijack businesses and industries to maximize their access to victims
I remember once reading a "funny" story about how all the entry level jobs on Bryan Singer's movies go to young white men who look exactly the same, lol isn't Singer a jerk
He sure is
But two things are true:
1. Those men were in danger, and
2. Other talented people were shut out of those jobs.
Oh, god, we had this with uni choirs. We all knew the choral director of one of the small ones managed to get the lion's share of good-looking tenors and basses, and had affairs with some of them. People made jokes about his type, and I remember the more naive straight lads being really at sea.
I remember a lot of young women being around one of said abusers forums in the early 00s, and many of them wanted to be writers, colorists, artists. I assume a lot of em have left the comics community. Their comics never made.
My first impression was that I knew exactly who you were talking about (W.E.?), but realized that there's sadly so many shitbags out there, it could be a number of people
Yes, tho yeah, there are a few prizes it could apply to. It's good that nowadays there are more venues for people to participate in comics, and that people are more outspoken about creep behaviour to help people be more aware & hopefully avoid bad situations.
