Damn. Incredibly sad to learn of the passing of Jeffrey Veregge. I didn't know him well, but he was always super-kind and friendly to me by default, and it made me feel like we were more than just casual colleagues. A fantastic artist, and a strong Indigenous voice in comics. May he Rest In Peace.

There were people who were gleeful after the initial situation broke, who monetized it with bait links to sites and fundraisers, typed the word "pedo" and even boasted that they brought Ed down. These people have now flipped, pointing fingers at Ed's hit list. Again, harmful and irresponsible. (4)

Greg Smallwood’s response is everything wrong with how the comics industry addresses inappropriate behavior and sexual abuse in the industry. Focusing on the plight of abusers who do nothing or almost nothing to make amends over the struggles of victims and marginalized creators.

Don’t let your empathy for the death of a person make you forget or ignore the harm they did in life.

CW: abuse, suicide, death (US suicide prevention & mental health crises number: 9-8-8) I know Ed Piskor’s loved ones and fans are heartbroken. Grief is messy. And we often place the dead on a pedestal where their rough edges are softened.
