Oct. 7 was what finally cut the cord between me and Twitter after being an incredibly high-traffic user for like 15+ years bc it finally clicked that it wasn’t “this place is making it harder to get good information”, it was “this place is deliberately making it easier to get bad information”
Twitter bluechecks posting misinformation about an explosion in Tehran which was actually a gas refinery explosion from 2021.

it was trying to get information from the ground about where aid was the needed as a disaster relief first responder and getting weird weather machine conspiracies at the top of the search that made me bail used to be invaluable, now it's worse than useless

I remember ten years ago when we were all glued to Twitter because it was the ONLY source of real information coming out of Ferguson. you’d watch a live video of something from someone’s cell phone and then you’d see CNN with a completely different description of what happened. that was radicalizing

and we’ve just. completely lost that

I feel like that was part of the point, sadly. We found a way to sift through the BS and get real-time information from the source and they had to wreck it as swiftly and efficiently as possible. The flooding of disinformation is decimating our ability to find truth on that site anymore. *sigh*

oh yeah no we absolutely lost it deliberately

absolutely, no coincidence the house of saud backed the purchase after the role the platform played in the arab spring, imo
