It's been a week since I watched LONGLEGS and other than some of the indelible/horrific images, the thing I reflect most on is Blair Underwood's key performance. It's deceptively minor, even thankless. But the movie doesn't work if you take away what he does with that character.
(1/4) First thing’s first: I enjoyed LONGLEGS. It’s sort of SILENCE OF THE LAMBS-adjacent. It even has the deceptive dual-villain (e.g. Hannibal wasn’t the real climatic foe, it was Buffalo Bill). And up until now it’s had one of the most effective marketing campaigns in years.
Lance Oppenheim's REN FAIRE is the best thing I've seen so far this year. Like AMERICAN MOVIE and GATES OF HEAVEN, it really immerses us into a distinct, real world with unmistakable personalities. Plus, Ari Balouzian's original score is a knockout. This is another win for ELARA.
