RIP Antione Drouot, Comte Drouot died 24. 3. 1847 in Nancy. An excellent artillery commander, loyal officer and in later life looked after the welfare of veterans. Fought at both Trafalgar and Waterloo.

OTD 10 Mar 1788, French naval.officer and Explorer Jean Francois de Galaup, Comte de la Perouse's expedition departed Botany Bay, New South Wales to continue his voyage of exploration of the Pacific. He and his crew were not seen again.

OTD 10 Mar 1908, Scot Alexander Mackay, and Australians Douglas Mawson and Tannant Edgeworth David became the first people to climb Mt Erebrus in Antartica. They went on to be rhe first people to reach the Magnetic South Pole on 19 January 1909.

Looks like the American West. In fact rhe Broken Hills to White Cliffs mail coach taken in 1907. A 600km round trip and no sealed roads back then.
