Temperatures were much warmer than average during the last three months across most latitude bands outside of the Antarctic. [Plot shows zonal-mean surface air temperature anomalies, where latitude = y-axis (not scaled by distance). Data: GISTEMPv4 (1951-1980)]

I want to give "likes" to posts like these because I support sharing this information in accessible ways, with clear figures and readable data, and all of that. But man it feels weird to react to global warming with a "heart" :/

From -45 to -90, how confident one can be in considering these results given the fat that too few stations are located there? In contrast to the Northern counterpart, for instance.

There are significant uncertainties in air temperature over the Southern Ocean and Antarctic Ice Sheet, but qualitatively these numbers are consistent in the monthly zonal mean across data products (reanalysis and station-based).
