On this day - July 14th, but in 2014 - we held the very 1st #TetZooCon at the London Wetland Centre. We had talks on #SpecBio, mermaids, mystery primates, #pterosaurs#dinosaurs & more. A review: web.archive.org/web/20150907... It was successful enough that we opted to do it again, and ... cont
Some of my cetacean photos from a Bay of Biscay trip i just did with ORCA. Over 200 Common dolphins, some Striped and Bottlenose dolphins, 2 Harbour porpoises 17 Fin whales, and several Cuvier's beaked whales. Also numerous gannets, shearwaters, guillemots and other seabirds. Brilliant trip.
TetZooCon 2024 happens September 28-29 at Bush House, London. Join us for talks, events, book signings, workshops and more. We have Greg Paul and Dave Hone on dinosaurs, Natalie Lawrence on monsters, Katrina van Grouw on Unfeathered Bird II, and Chris Packham... and more! tetzoo.com/blog/2024/6/...
Author, artist and scientist Greg Paul is among the most influential of people worldwide when it comes to our understanding of dinosaur life appearance. I'm thrilled to announce that Greg is speaking at TetZooCon 2024, held London, Sept 27-29. More info and tickets: tetzoo.com/convention
Frog of the day. This one jumped or climbed into the holding tank. It's about 30 mm long (SVL) and is presumably from last year. The tiny white specks on the water surface are amphibious springtails.
Here's me presenting Flip the robot plesiosaur - made by my buddy Luke Muscutt - to Mary Anning over the weekend, an appropriate event what with 2024 being the 200th anniversary of the naming of Plesiosaurus.
Lyme Regis Fossil Festival was amazing. It's a great location, but this year with great events, many stalls, a good crowd, tons to see. I spoke about marine reptiles and did a book signing. Flip the robot plesiosaur was introduced to Mary Anning, marking 200 years since the naming of Plesiosaurus.
Just look at this scenery. Amazing. I went out early along the coast each morning to go birdwatching... (was also checking for reptiles, with no success). #LymeRegis
Lyme Regis Fossil Festival is this weekend, and I'll be there. I'm going to the Why Dinosaurs? screening on Saturday, speaking about ANCIENT SEA REPTILES on Sunday AM, and generally hanging around and looking at stuff. I love going to Lyme Regis, follow me for pics of the event :)
Been trying to submit a manuscript, and once everything is in I just get this for HOURS (literally). Really infuriating. Have already changed file types, will do so AGAIN and try AGAIN...
It's a non trivial observation that when things are not going well I benefit from visiting areas of greenery. This is Donkey Common and I went there yesterday.
First (big, not Lesser) stag beetle of the year, a big healthy female on a footpath. Made sure she got off the path without being trodden on. First individual (live or dead) I've seen since 2022. #insects
Recently, I learnt that Santiago Druetta, a palaeoartist in Córdoba, Argentina, made a museum-quality model of the glyptodont Neosclerocalyptus. Could I perhaps obtain a version for myself? Santiago was kind enough to send the file, and Rebecca Groom was kind enough to print and paint it!
