The NYT telling people not to vote is a huge mask-off moment and it would be a shame if everyone involved suddenly found dining out an untenable venture.
The NYT was hardly telling people not to vote. They are and always have been committed to running opeds from a variety of views, even some silly ones. If they run an oped saying “this is why I dont want kids” they’re not calling for the extinction of the human race.
Someone at the NYT thought it would be cute on July 4th to print someone who is some sort of contrarian cryptomonarchist or something. Sort of like, “look at this ding dong.” It doesn’t matter! So much more out there to be mad about! It’s not going to depress voter turnout!
