This is indeed a bit of a straw man and the critique is the ongoing coverage of his age, ignoring what he’s done after the debate, AND anything Trump has done - such as calling for military tribunals for his enemies, revelations of his alleged pedophilia, etc
I'm obviously not here to defend the NYT, but this notion that no one in the US knows what to think until the New York Times tells them is just so Bluesky-pilled. I had friends and family who couldn't care less about the NYT texting me during & after the debate like "gah what's wrong with Biden??"
When you see the way the press is treating Joe Biden for aging in public, you see how they could treat Donald Trump for committing fraud, rape, espionage, and insurrection and never, ever will.
