When Kermit III was born his father was Junior and his grandpa was Senior. His GGF was not alive. So Kermit was called III for that reason. They’re not a dynasty. When his grandfather died, he already had an established professional identity, so he didn’t want to change his name.

Wikipedia wants it to be like Habsburgs and shit but they’re not. It was literally just to distinguish which of the living Kermits you were talking about.

And yes he also has a Kermit son. He has joked that it was at his wife’s insistence, that she would not be the one to break the chain. The informal shortening of Kermit is Kim.
