confession: I voted for Nader in 2000. I lived in Chicago, and I knew Gore would easily carry Illinois, so it would be a purely symbolic vote. but damn!
for me, the canonical sociological analysis is Josh Gamson's /Claims to Fame/. he shows that most people play "believing games" that *almost never* involve "naive" belief or complete "postmodern" skepticism.
