This female Powerful Owl has recently taken to roosting outside the hollow during the day. Previously she has only had one Owlet each year & has stayed in the nest during the day up until when the Owlet emerged. Maybe a sign it's getting crowded in there & there more is than one?

You can see her chest feathers are worn from the chick(s) pulling at them, another reason to get out of the nest. The Owlet(s) trilling from the nest hollow is getting very loud now.

* Actually, I misremembered, checking the notes, this female came out of the nest hollow during the day a bit over 3 weeks before the chick came out of the nest hollow last year. So maybe I shouldn't read too much into the current behaviour.
