Ep 47 with Kathleen Sheppard is out, as is her new book, WOMEN IN THE VALLEY OF THE KINGS! Listen to learn how she followed archival threads to each of her subjects, her old-school note-taking, and how her agent and editor helped her learn to write a trade book. draftingthepast.com/podcast-epis...

I’ve been saving these up for when I was able to get back to writing. Great advice in this one: All the research is required to get you, the historian, to be able to answer the question; it doesn’t all need to go in the book. @draftingthepast.bsky.social draftingthepast.com/podcast-episod…

Hey, I got to be a podcast guest for a change! Thanks to @herberthistory.bsky.social and @mkn.bsky.social for letting me tag along on this romp through a film that was anything but. Psst...I might also make another appearance on an upcoming episode that's right up my (tornado) alley.

Overnight, @draftingthepast.bsky.social hit 75,000 downloads. It's a bigger number than I dreamed of when I started, but I'm also brainstorming ways to reach more people. Thank you to everyone who has listened and shared the show with a friend!

New episode out now! I had a great time talking to Tore Olsson about how pandemic gaming changed (and didn't ruin!) his career, how he's reaching new audiences, and the fun of rediscovering some of his middle school writer's voice. Great episode. Like @jasonheppler.org , I’ve recently made the switch to Obsidian for capturing and storing notes. We need a place where historians can share interesting use cases/plugins/etc. since it’s a big ecosystem.
New! I was stoked to interview @jasonheppler.org about his new book SILICON VALLEY AND THE ENVIRO INEQUALITIES..., his work with @rrchnm.bsky.social, and his career path! Plus, I wanted the scoop on what digital tools a developer uses in his writing. Listen now: draftingthepast.com/podcast-epis...

A while back, I wrote for Feeding the Elephant about how to be a great podcast guest. A kind scholar and disability activist, Tekla Babyak, reached out with ideas to make it more inclusive. I'm grateful for her insights, and happy to share an updated version: networks.h-net.org/group/discus...

Margaret O'Mara is one of the historians I most look up to, so I was thrilled that she agreed to join me on the new episode of Drafting the Past. She was just as smart, thoughtful, and full of practical writing advice as I'd hoped. Listen here: draftingthepast.com/podcast-epis... 🗃️ #writing #podcast

It was a joy to talk with Kimberly Harper about her book Men of No Reputation! If you're interested in writing from an academia-adjacent job, the impact an undergrad history prof can have on a rural kid, and how to deal with lying sources, this one's for you. draftingthepast.com/podcast-epis... 🗃️
