'Institutions, parties and the evolution of electoral preferences' by Chris Wlezien and me is published in the November volume of the European Journal of Political Research. I think it's the most important yet of our work on how voters' choices come into focus over the electoral cycle.

Drawing on over 27,000 voting intention polls and using a new methodology, we show that institutions and the characteristics of political parties matter for how voters' choices line up with election outcomes over time.

Voters make up their minds earlier in the election cycle in PR systems, for older and 'niche' (including far right) parties, while their preferences are less structured for larger parties and in systems with a greater number of competitive parties.
